1. When you are ready to have sex with a caring partner.

2. When you are old and mature enough to go to the doctor to get it and take it as directed.

3. When you have enough money to pay for it.

4. When you are ready for the burden of worrying about possible pregnancy.(birth control is effective, but not flawless)

5. When you are ready to deal with the possible agonizing side effects of birth control.

6. When you are emotionally ready to handle having sex with your partner.

I would say to wait to have sex when you are emotionally ready and truly in love with your partner. I waited until I was 20, and I don't regret it.

p.s. Don't sleep with tons of people. That's why we have to worry about STDs and AIDS.

When you first are thinking that you may want to have sex... you should go on them soon. It can take 3 months for them to work. 16 is probably a good age to start because prior to that I would hope parents are watching you and making sure you are not doing anything... but at 16 when teens start driving that gets a little difficult so it's best safe than sorry even though I think 16 is too young to have sex anyways.

I think it depends. Some girls are on BC just to help regulate periods and cut down on cramping. But if you are going to become sexually active then I would advise getting on BC. I have been on BCP's since I was 17 and am now 32.
