My girls (now 16-20) all 3 got to go to a hotel pool party. Hotels with indoor pools (esp. Holiday Inn, etc) have "pool packages". It was great. They got to have 12-15 friends and then we stayed the night too. It was fun and they loved it. No DJ was necessary just a portable boom box and their favorite CDs. The hotel was very cool about the whole thing because they usually only rent the poolside rooms to those with families (so they don't care a horribly lot amount of noise). have fun you're a good sibling.

Well 13 is big so I am sure she'll love it. I think you might want to attempt a surprise party. Call up her best friend and get them involved in planning it. Does she have any particular hobby? You might want to use that as an activity. Whether or not to have a D.J. really depends on how many people you are going to have and what kind of money you have to spend. For a really large group (over 50) a D.J. can be fun. The theme shouldn't be anything beyond 80's/90's/ etc. because she's getting older and starting to drop the whole "themed" birthday party thing. If she has a particular favorite color or animal that she is very open about then go ahead and use that as a theme. Make sure to have one or two activities for the participants to enjoy since the teen years can be awkward and they are less likely to just start dancing etc. Perhaps have a giant "card" people can sign and write wishes for her on--they can even draw pictures or recall memories of her when she was little. This gives people something to do-read others notes/write their own and gives her a great keepsake. The most important thing is to have all of her friends and all of the people she'd like to get closer to there.

OOHH! i wwent to the best 13 year old b-day party EVER last year. it was a surprise at a local resturant/bar, on the back deck. the whole thing took place outside. there was a patio section for eating with tables, an open area where there was a Dj and anyone could request a song or just dance, and a sand volleyball court in the back. the DJ gave stuff out thats was good for our games (plastic fedora hats, inflatable mini beachballs, etc. ) there were no organized games, you just go and dance, hangout and talk, or play volleyball. it was about 5 hours long. around 5:30pm food came out cater-style and 30minutes later there were make ur own sundaes. there was also a samll table for presents the featured a stiff posterboard with the birthday kids face on it, and all the gueats signed it. Because it is a surprise party, the mom got a couple of the bday kid's friends to make up the guest list.

no theme is nessesary, just birthday balloons and stuff. the DJ takes care of the songs.

it would also be really cool if you gave out and lit sparklers when it gets dark.

a party doesn't PUMP without a dj.

First, u don't need a DJ. just compile her favorite songs/bands on a some mix Cd's to surprise her that she's be able to keep. just have a stereo to play the Cd's. Decorate the place w/ her favorite colors. And for me a home made cake is always more special than a store bought one. If u'd like make the whole day about her. take her to her favorite places or some of her favorite things w/ her, movies, bowling, miniature golf, get her nail done, go to her favorite restaurant etc see a sports game, a concert. Be creative and simple. Thats the key to a great memorable party or day creative and simple. Just think of what she love and the rest will write itself! Good luck and tell her Tootsie says Happy Birthday!

I think that its awesome that ur doing that 4 ur sis!! Ya so a DJ is a must and as for the theme u have to find out what she really likes such as a certain movie or band. You could all ways just go for a certain color theme 2. and depending on the # of ppl u might want 2 think about gift bags for the guests. Personally i think a really cool theme would be a Hawaiian them with the grass skits and flowers everywhere would be tons of fun.
Well good luck!! hope this helps

If you can find a good one, a DJ is a nice idea for a party. I know some people who always hire DJs for their parties, and it's one thing that helped make their parties memorable. Find a DJ that plays a wide variety of music, or her favorite genre.

As for the theme, try asking your sister what sort of theme she wants. It will be a more memorable party for her if she gets to help plan and have some control over it.

um, kinda like when you're....23, 33, 43, you won't be remembering the "best birthday ever" when you were 13.

13's not really a life-changing birthday.
