Sometimes a smaller store will when a shoplifter is caught, will just take their merchandise back and eject you from the store with a warning of don't ever come back in here again. They don't involve the police, so no it would not go on a persons record.
While I was in college, I did loss prevention work for a large retail chain, who would press charges for all items taken over $1.00, and the police would be called.
Considering all the new anti theft devices installed in large retail stores these days, cameras, loss prevention gates and tags, I don't think I'd risk taking something.
In the state I reside in, a law was passed that when a shoplifter is caught, the amount of the items taken is added on to the persons record until $500.00 is reached, then the next time a person is caught, it's not a misdemeanor any more, it's a felony.

You question is not real clear. By reading your vague quesiton, i'll say no. In order for something to go on your record, you have to be arrested eith by going to jail or by getting a summons(ticket).

Now, you can get a ticket by a cop, or even in the mail. But let's say, you wer shoplifting and the manager of the store caught you and eventually let you go without the cops showing up, then it will not go on your record.

It depends on where you live. In Florida, a business or person may have charges filed with the State Attorney leading to a possible arrest and court date (after you're let go from the store). Chances are though if they let you leave your OK as long as you abide by the Trespass Warning and/or fines.

Not necessarily. The investigation and complaint may go to the County Attorney at a later date and you will get arrested or a notice to report to court
