I love the look of vinyl fencing but my husband says he would rather have the shadow box wood privacy fencing because it allows "air flow". Anyone with personal expreiance what are some good and bads between the both and what would you choose? Also we live in Florida so hurricane and sun damage issue also apply here. Thanks

Vinyl fencing options are many, I would go with that over wood anyday providing you can afford it. There is the national Fence Convention at the end of the month in Orlando Florida Jan.31st thru Feb. 2nd. If you live anywhere near there it would be well worth your and your husbands time to attend. Type FenceTech into a search and you will get all the details.

Wood rots and vinyl doesn't. The neighbors put up a wooden privacy fence several years ago. It was an ugly yellow color until it weathered into a mellow gray and acquired some ivy. A rather large section fell over into my yard last winter and stayed there until spring when I asked the neighbor to do something because it was on top of my azalea and was going to kill the grass. He shoved it over onto his side and later got it replaced. Now there is an ugly yellow section in the middle of the mellow gray. Don't ask me why they needed the silly fence in the first place. There was a perfectly good ordinary metal fence there before, and it didn't look nearly so ugly. If those people want to sunbathe in the nude, I guarantee I won't look. Yuck!
