Get in plenty of water prior to your period and avoid caffeine and cabonated beverages. I like to use Pampin Max for cramps as well. For some reason, maybe this is in my mind... but chocolate seems to help with the cramps. I swear, I had friends that claimed the same thing... but like a Hershey's bar just seems to ease the cramps for some reason.

I'll just tell you what I do for mine and maybe it will help you.
If possible, lay on your side, don't walk or sit too much.
Try putting ice in little baggie on your stomach for 10 minutes when it hurts the most.
Don't drink too much fluid, it affects the amount of blood you have in your period.
Try to eat little portions and often. Like chips, cookies, chocolate, fruits, but not three large meals.
If you want something - GET IT! It's like pregnancy - you will get pretty whimsy. Your body knows, what it wants.
Midol helps a lot.
Take care and good luck!

Take Advil or Motrin the day before your period starts and during the worst days of your period. This will stop the production of prostaglandins which cause pain. Also, be sure to tell your gyne that you have menstrual pain as it could be a symptom of endometriosis. Birth control pills will help.
