I haven't seen or heard anything about the Soviets or any other country with a space program landing on the moon since the US landed in '69. Is the moon now official property of the US?

I believe that International treaty prevents any country from claiming the moon or any planet.

--------------------------------------------
The Agreement Governing the Activities of States on the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies, better known as the Moon Treaty or Moon Agreement is an international treaty that turns jurisdiction of all heavenly bodies (including the orbits around such bodies) over to the international community. Thus, all activities must conform to international law (notably this includes the UN Charter).

In practice, it is a failed treaty since it was not ratified by any nation which engages in manned space exploration, and it has a negligible effect on actual spaceflight....

The U.S. is a party to the outer space treaty, which prohibits any country from claiming any celestial body, including the Moon. Nevertheless, the US flag IS sitting in 6 places on the Moon, by order of Congress I heard, and no other nation's flag is there. So if someone else who is not a party to the treaty tries to claim it, the U.S. would have grounds to fight that above and beyond the treaty.

By the way, the US is not a party to the Moon treaty, which is not to be confused with the outer space treaty.

Also, Russia never sent people to the Moon. The U.S is the only country to have ever sent people to the Moon.

No. As stated, international treaty does not allow any country claiming territory on the moon...though one assumes that a country not signing the treaty could claim otherwise.

That said, I don't think there's anything to stop an individual claiming territory on the moon other than the effort of getting there.

The USA is a super power only on earth, but still it does not own the whole earth. They do not own the moon.USA and Russia have sent persons to the moon but they came back. They are not their to defend the territory. They cannot prohibit other nations to send their citizens to the moon. China and Europe are well advanced. Even India plans to send man to the moon in 2015.
