Broken Ipod??

My ipod said it need to be plugged into the mains
but i dont have one
do i have to buy a USB power adaptor?
why does it need to be plugged into the main
if i buy the adapter will my ipod work?

try charging in other pc 's usb

mine does, my main one broke, so that's why i got it
