Several reasons are possible(not including a lie)
False Positives, After a T-cell count drops past a certain point, a person will also not test as being positive because their immune system is so low it no longer carries any antibodies against HIV(the human body does create antibodies against HIV, they aren't effective though, but that is what is meant by Positive in the first place). There are a few people, also referred to as the Elite(which has no other implications other than it being a name) which can and do successfully fight off the HIV Virus and do not catch the disease. Those people are few and far between, I believe I have read that 1% or less of people exposed to HIV are that lucky.

He could be in denial or he might be thinking 'opps I made an error saying that I'm positive...'

The only real way, is to look at the blood test, but since that is private info, don't hold your breath.

Let him know if he is indeed positive, not to worry. Many people live long and very productive lives that are HIV+. There have been so many advances in what we know about the disease, people are surviving. Let him know that is is OK.

Ask him to clairfy if he means that his HIV level is undetectable? See once a person gets on meds they can raise thier counts to regualr levels so in fact it is LIKE they are HIV-, however once diagnosed with HIV you are considered HIV pos forever, even if the levels are undetectable.

He still carries the virus and should still have protected sex!

i'm at the instant looking after a FIV positve elderly Maine Coon Cat...he's leukemia destructive yet does have a thryroid difficulty that demands meds.( he's 14) the fewer rigidity he has in his life the better the probabilities the FIV will proceed to be dormant besides the undeniable fact that considering that his immune device has been compromised and might ruin down at any time I strongly reccomend he be an indoor cat 24-7....NO outdoors in any respect. He desires a nutrionally wealthy weight-alleviation plan besides-in spite of you're able to do to stack the deck in his choose, achieve this. so some distance as pussycat leukemia, save him remoted variety different cats, save them removed from his own products and wait on your vet......FIV isn't that straightforward to unfold (often in utero or by using an somewhat deep chew) yet not so with pussycat leukemia. solid luck.

I have heard that their was a cure developed in Mexico, and that it was covered up by the government, but I doubt that your friend got it even if a cure was available. Maybe he means that he has moved into full blown aids and that is why he is saying he is hiv -, because it isn't classified as that anymore? I really don't know. This is just hypothetical out loud thinking.

I order for you to have HIV+, you need to have less then 5,000 withe cells in your body, your immune system is low and little by little he will die but not because HIV, but because the immune system would not defend him from the outside invaders. Now, if he maneges to raise the immune system to more than 5000 you can have sexual relation and there will be no problem of any kind. Is like magic Johnson, he injects IP6 and that keeps him alive and strong. IP6 costs from $800 to $1200. I know this because I sale a product that increases the immune system yet is cheaper, and my friend uses it and in a month his immune system increase 200%, with Transfer Factor Plus. Is an American Company and only we have the patent to the product, if want to know more about it let me know. I use it as a supplement and it keeps me out of sickness. Its natural, babies of two months years old or pregnant woman can use it too, and its on the PDR of the doctors. http://wilfredojr.my4life.com

If he is on an anti-viral cocktail it may have reduced the viral load to a point where it can't be detected -- but it won't make him negative, it only makes him APPEAR to be negative.

I would note however that a handful of people have apparently reversed sero-conversion. It may be that the original positive results were false (false-positives happen and not all hospitals do multiple tests).

He could be saying he does not have AIDS, but once you are HIV positive it is for the rest of your life.

Isn't possible that you friend used the word "undetectable" when he announced this 'second' bit of news?

He might have what's called 'zero' viral load, which means the virus is undetectable in his blood - the only problem is that the virus is probably lying dormant 'asleep' and hidden somewhere in his body -- if he stops taking the drugs -- it will return.
