I've always just put crushed flake food in for my fry, but you can also buy frozen baby brine shrimp, or other small frozen food such as daphnia. I've also heard that hard boiled egg yolk is good for fry food. Be careful not to over feed though. The frozen food might be the best, especially the daphnia which tends to be a bit bigger than baby brine, because then the adults can eat it too.

Hi! I have a platie about to have little ones as well. I'm new to this but I've been told ground up flakes is the most common method. Some people say they need more and sujust frozen baby brine shrimp, blood worms or even hard boiled egg yolks. I also read how important it is to keep the tank clean. So egg yolks dont sound so good. Anyways good luck! Hey did you know when she was about to have them? And about how many did she have? Give me details! What are you doing to protect them if anything. Email me if you would. I am waiting for mine to have hers any secound. And moolies and mickey mouse fish are supposed to about the same in this. Did you know they can even breed together>? Wow! shehas3@yahoo.com

I would recommend a fry food. Hikari makes a good one called "Small Bites". Grinding up flakes may end up making a big mess in your tank because the fry will nto be able to consume most peices of the food.

This is a bit time consuming but you can put a jar of water, a small amount, in the sun and let algae grow, the baby fish will feed of the green water, you just have to drop it in the tank. The fry love it and will grow nice and healthy on it.

Nutrafin Max Freeze Dried Tablets for Tropical Fish. I have mollies, and this, along with crushed flake food, works very well. The tablets crush into very fine particles - half a tablet or less is plenty.

grind up flake food as small as you can with your fingers and feed them that. Even if it is too big they will take bites. They will also eat algae in your aqaurium
