I want to get like a small acting job then grow on my acting career because I want to be an actress. I live in Madison, Wisconsin. My parents won't let me because
1) my age; they think I'm too young; I don't think so....

2) money; I can't spend a lot because I take private piano and flute lessons

3) I don't see ads loooking for young actresses.

Can you help me look for an acting class for the young or a short little play around my local area? I would appreciate that. Thanks

Hi there... learning the art of acting has many benefits outside of the 'field'. As you may know, memorizing lines is just the surface level--the ability to change your emotional state quickly in order to accomplish something is VERY valuable.

I think it's a great idea you have to take an acting class. Until you have the means, make your first step to be informational gathering. Find out how much it would cost...where...when...etc. Talk to the instructor of the class if you can and tell them about your interest. I've been to several plays and there are many parts with parts for people your age. If you are truly passionate about it, don't be discouraged by anyone unless you yourself are interested in something different.

A single class isn't *that* expensive and you will obviously have the money sometime in the future (especially if you save yourself). You will obviously be old enough sometime to get permission as well. So make detailed plans for what you will do when you do have the means, and spend your free time getting prepared for the opportunity so you'll be able to make the most of it. Practice your ability to improvise convincingly on a situation without being given lines. Read good books (not just about acting). And always get good grades in school--beyond the other benefits, you'll have a hard time convincing your parents to let you pursue your interest in acting if you're not doing well in school.

Don't wait until you can take a class to start learning about something (this goes for anything)...there are books and you can practice acting out parts yourself...perhaps filming yourself (you'll love to watch those when you're older!) etc. Make up your own stories maybe and act them out. etc. etc.

I have a digitized video about improvisation somewhere I think. If you email me, I'll take a look for it and upload it somewhere for you.

If it's important to you (whether acting or anything else), don't let anyone discourage you.

Good luck!

Agents don't cost anything upfront so I don't know what you mean by cheap. Any agent is going to take a 10-20% commission AFTER you get a paid job. Anyone trying to make you pay before you get a job is always going to be a scam Ford Models accepts models age 13 - they have offices around the country. Most of the other big agencies have a minimum age of 14. You also need to be at least 5'7" by age 13 for any agency so if you are not that tall yet, then wait until you grow

You have to find the plays yourself. If you're unwilling to look, then you need to give up that dream now. becoming an actor or actress is an extremely difficult thing to do; it requires a great deal of training and a fundamental understanding of theatre. If you want to get started, do some plays at your school or a local youth group or something; people are always putting on plays.
And you need to take lessons. Piano and flute don't really figure in to acting that much. Get your priorities straight, and go for it.

You live in Madison, Wi? Check out the local colleges, Universities - they're always putting on plays and sometimes need younger actors; if they won't/don't hire you as an actor, ask if you can work behind the scenes with makeup, props, construction, helping actors "read" their lines....that type of experience is invaluable and free...go for it!

Due to your limited resources and limited surroundings, for the time being why don't you consider particpating in a community theatre group, school plays, that sort of thing...something for you to gain experience with. If when you near the end of your high school career, you are still interesting in acting as a profession, consider a drama major in college.

you cant walk before you run. start acting in plays at school. High school next year for you right? take acting classes in high school, thats free. act in the high school play. find local theaters near by and look for auditions in the paper. look up online for monologues and memorize parts and then performe in front of friends and or family to practice. http://www.ispgroupinc.com/monologues/monologues_for_kids_and_teens.htm is a web site that has great monologues for teens and kids. good luck.

First of all, I think age doesn't matter so just forget about that. Money... Well... I can't help with that but if you want it that badly, try to save up. And adds, I don't even know you NEEDED adds for acting, but, I'm probably wrong. Anyway... Good luck and E-mail me if you have any questions! ;-)

go to www.craigslist.org and click on your city. Then click on TV/Flim gigs. Apply for as many as you can. The gigs on that site are a great starting point to get some sort of work on your acting resume. A lot of Extra and Background work, and some local independent films. Good luck!
