Heard this till its wore out. "They" hate us. Communist, terrorist or whom ever, why do other country's or persons so-called hate the U.S.? As a citizen by far the majority of us has done nothing personally to anyone that causes hatered toward us or the U.S. I think it would be better said "they" hate -------. Fill in the blank that makes sense to you why anyone would hate the U.S.

The "they hate us" line is a symptom of a sociological phenomenon--a pathological one. It comes directly from the psycho-social mindset and belief system of the "religious/political" right wing. within this subculture there is an indoctrinated belief that anyone who is outside their group hates them because they supposedly are "God's servants" (or whatever the catchphrase of the moment is. And an allied conviction that anyone who disagrees with them is an enemy--look at Bush's "you're either with us or against us" rhetoric.

Consequently, since their political agenda is treated by them as equavalent to religious doctrine, this extends to virtually all areas--politics, ecconomics science (e.g., global warming as a "plot" evolution as a "plot," etc.) And, of course, to foreign affairs. They tend to regard only themselves as "true Americans" and all others as enemies who hate them because they are the "true Americans/believers." Particularly anyone who has a social system/culture that isn't "moral/civilized" (white European" in its origin, or a political/economic system different from ours.

The result of this--and the functional effect--is to isolate them and set them apart from the rest of the society. It is also a cult-like form of induced paranoia (think Waco or Jonestown). And, since they "know" that everyone hates them because they are "doing God's will" they can't be reasoned with--hence it becomes necessary for the rest of us to keep them on a tight leash (which, unfortunately, they slipped off of the last 6 years). And that resistance to their demands only confirms in their minds that they are hated--makingthem even more unreasonable.

Please note--aside from a couple of personal comments--which should be clear as my opinion) this is not a political comment--it is an analysis based on my expertise as a historian/sociologist. and the confirming evidence is all around you--just open your eyes and look.

I think some people don't want to be lumped into the "United States being the greatest country in the world" group. America is not the world. Some Americans know this, most do not. Some Americans have an ugly arrogance about our place in the world, and it is embarrassing.

"Hate" is nothing but the latest buzz word being promoted by the neo-cons and their bible-thumping puppets. Disagree with Bush, you "hate" him. Disagree with the current Iraq policy, you "hate" the troops. It's just more silliness being parroted by nitwits who seek to draw attention from real issues by injecting soppy emotionalism into the debate in hopes their opponents will focus on denying the "hate" rather than addressing those issues.

It is an incredibly immature tactic. And, like most immature people, they believe that this type of tactic, because it works on their tiny minds, works on everybody. They are wrong. It serves only to identify them as fools.

Well, I think its that they hate the policies of our government.

In general, many countries like things that come out of our culture-- music, movies, TV etc.

But many who don't like us, do so because we impose our policies on them.

There is also a level of jelously-- we are among the top (if not THE top) countries in the world when it comes to wealth etc.

Of course, there are also those who dislike our lifestyles and freedoms-- those tend to be the really conservatives/orthodox types of countries.

Very good, but "they" do hate us. Me, you and every American. To people who do not live here, we are the government and isn't it funny that "they" are correct. Unfortunately "they" also don't understand once we elect someone to Washington, "those" people mostly forget why they were elected. It sure as heck wasn't to go around starting wars or liberations or whatever you want to call this action in Iraq. They hate us for manipulating their countries, their governments. They hate us because we steal their resources instead of paying them their due. They hate us because no matter how lousy things can get here in America, the people still rule, see November seventh.

Many countries are envious of our natural resources and our economy, as well as our influence in the world.

Terrorists don't just hate the U.S., they hate all of the Western World.
