The film is from dryer sheets. The best way to clean a dryer filter is to run under water, until the water passes through the filter freely. Be sure it is completely dry before replacing and running the dryer

Exceptional question!!!! My neighbor recently had a repair man come over to look at her dryer because it kept burning out heating elements. His advice was to clean the lint trap at least once a month if you use dryer sheets..run hot tap water over the screen and scrub with an old tooth brush until water runs freely through it. A clogged lint filter can also cause your dryer to over heat and catch on fire. Please tell everyone you know about this resolution.

Wash it with soap and water and gently use a nail brush or small scrub brush on it. Allow to dry thoroughly before putting it back in the dryer. Works great!

I run mine under hot water from the tap, use an old toothbrush to gently scrub over it, and shake, then air dry before putting it back in the dryer

Use a hard brush, some warm water and some liquid soap. Should come off easily. Let dry before reusing!

Gasoline and a lighter should do it. Probably need a new dryer after that and new one's don't have that film.

If you can't scrub it off after soaking it in really HOT water and some Dawn dish soap..try soaking it in vinegar, and then repeat with hot water & Dawn~
Good Luck!
