It is not okay. There is an area called Homework Help and these questions belong there. For the most part these kids aren't asking for "Help"; they are looking for someone to do it all for them. The person doing the homework is cheating too. And what a suprise - the answers are usually bad, unoriginal and contain a lot of misinformation. So many of those answers are blatant plagiarism - copied word for word - and they try to pass off the answers as their own. Also, often, the Homework Responders have no qualms about using the Edit feature and changing their answer when someone posts a better one. And what's with the stock answer, with the stock sites, "I have found eighty thousand sites for you to read." These are the same tired old sites over and over again which often don't answer the question (I've checked a few; those that I read didn't answer the question at all). Besides, if the Asker is too lazy to read the Spark Notes, we all know he isn't going to even look at those sites. Ever notice that these HomeworkResponders hardly ever have an original thought? I've never seen one of these Google Bots answer a real question - like when someone is looking for a specific book and can't remember the title or author.

Parents are suing the school systems because their kid graduated from high school and can't read. Down the road, I see huge lawsuits being brought against Yahoo for permitting this to continue.

I would like to read questions and answers from people who like to read - not from people who are trying to garner points. I realize that nobody is forcing me to read these questions, but I see the title of a book I like and there is no way for me to know that when I click on it, it is a fourteen part boring homework question.

This is a great question with some great responses. Thank you all.

When you could find the reason why the person cannot progress in her/his homework - some specified problem which prevents to go on with the task - why not give some guidance or - at least - a hint? Solving of the pupils' home works is another issue and not O.K. Giving some support for them, in opposite, definitely helps their learning.

What bothers me the most about this practice is the number of people who actually give them the answers or work the problems for them step by step. How is a kid supposed to learn if someone else is doing their work for them? Is that person who provided the answer going to be available provide the answers and do the problems when the kid is tested on that material? My only response to homework questions, if I actually respond at all, is to tell them to read their textbooks and do their own research.

It did not become OK, that is why you will find the vast majority of people not answering obvious homework questions.

However, it is common for students to ask others for the answers on this site. I guess they do not want to earn their marks, just have them handed over on a silver platter.

because it stands now the initiatives earlier you look too overwhelming. p.c.. your self. Plan to 2 essays Fri, 3 Saturday, 2 Sunday. When people started answering the questions posed, instead of telling the asker that in the rest of their lives, there will not be someone there for them in the future. And when/or if they ever realize this they will probably either be living on skid row or in the bushes next to a river somewhere.

It never is ok to have someone do your homework but it is ok to ask for help.

The day Y! Answers opened ;-) Personally I come here if I'm stuck or want to confirm something...people that come here just to do it all end up working at McDonalds, so they're hurting no one but themselves.

I don't think it has ever become ok, but then again, most people don't listen to me or anyone else who says so...
