Oh, you mean these:

How I do it I just press and hold the "Alt" key, then on the number pad (not at the top), just punch in different combinations of the numbers WHILE still holding down on Alt key. And when you're done punching in the #'s let go of the Alt key as soon as you're done.
Here's how I make a heart:
