Because only humans are self aware. Animals don't know that they "exist" therefore they can't know that they can eliminate themselves through suicide.

Because humans are the only species on this planet that has tapped into what they call "2nd Nature" or the part of the mind that actually wanders off into a virtual simulator that plays about a fantasy world that drive people into depression and anger. Animals don't have this instinct and that is why animals don't commit suicide because all they have is first nature.

We humans, it seems, are the only creatures able to fully override the preservation instinct.
lemmings do not commit mass suicide. When their habitat gets overcrowded the Arctic rodents will sometimes attempt to migrate en masse, with the inevitable result that a few unfortunates might plop into a river or plummet off a cliff, but it's not as if they draw straws or anything.

I've read about some rat like creature that when they become over populated they run into the ocean and drown themselves.
Also they don't know why whales beach themselves, you'd think a whale would be smart enough with their sonar to know the water is getting shallower.

I saw a chimp whose mother died stop eating until it died. It was one of those Bonobo's.
Other animals "suicide" but for a reason, to feed their mate or young. Even lemmings are controlling their population (probably)

Well, lemmings do too.
But it's not like they sit there thinking how sad and depressed they are, and then they decide to off themselves. They just run off cliffs in large groups.

Pekingese Dogs are famous for this....they chase parked cars, but only get flat noses......good luck
