If you are purchase new wheels, there is probably going to be very little difference in going one way or the other. For a performance application though, chrome wheels are considered inappropriate as it is possible to develop cracks in the wheel which do not crack the chrome, thereby creating a dangerous situation that cannot be seen.

Also, some have been concerned that the process of chroming can weaken a wheels structural integrity - however there is no evidence to support this in the case of a wheel which was designed for, and chromed by the manufacturer.

In the end though, it is probably unlikely that you will find the same wheel offered both in chrome, or as a polished alloy. So your real choice will most likely be determined by which wheel you choose.
