For all of your information, I am Active Duty Navy, I listen to Howard Stern (Anti George Bush, btw), NFL Radio, and watch Fox News.

I have my own views on many subjects, such as gun control, abortion, stem cell research, the war in Iraq.

Some things I agree with the President on, some I don't. Because I express my opinions on certain subjects that go against what Democrats feel/believe, I'm called a "Goose Stepper" and "Brainwashed".

I thought Democrats embraced individuality. Is this not the case?

Bert T...none of my Shipmates call me brainwashed...we don't talk about politics at work...kind of a common courtesy thing. Don't want to create a hostile work environment.

And I have been called a goose stepper on Yahoo! Answers in the past...all because I said I don't agree with someone who was giving a "Liberal" stance on a subject.

Right You are Ken...have you heard of the expression that Democrats are on the Left of the political spectrum, and Republicans are on the Right of the political spectrum?

That's why I said "Lefties". I've also learned that if I say "Democrats", I have a higher chance of having my question deleted before it ever posts.

And I'm an Independent, btw.

I'm sorry that I can't speak for the lefties but I did want to say thank you for serving your Country. There's still some of us out here who appreciate that and being a Vet, I wanted to pass that along.

I have never fully agreed with any politician and neither should anyone be expected to do so. We all have our beliefs based upon our experiences and our desires so you shouldn't be criticised for doing the same. I am a Republican who ahs never voted a straight ticket, except for this last time because things were so outrageous. I believe in a woman's right to choose, as long as she doen't wait until the middle of the 8th month, and I don't much care who or what other people want to marry because that doesn't effect me a bit.

Unfortunately, there are jsut as many people on the left as on the right that think their way of looking at an issue is the only correct way. These extremists on both sides are the ones that give politics a bad name, but are also usually the ones given airtime. I am all for someone's right to have and express their own viewpoint jsut as long as they have taken the time to think it through themselves and really believe in it. The worst people are the ones who hear the party line on a topic or hear it stated on Rush Limbaugh or Al Franken and go with it because it is coming from the right or left. I consider myself a liberal "lefty" but am also in favor of the death penalty and other conservative "right-wing" views. Believe what you want to believe and be proud of that. Jsut put some thought into it, like it sounds you have.

Nicely said, righty. I agree with President Bush on gun control also, it's a persons right as declared by the constitution. I think it's wrong antiquated thinking but I'm willing to accept that right for others even though we have many, many deaths by guns every year. Everyone is an individual so that argument doesn't carry too much water. It's the individuals thinking and actions that comes into play in the herd mentality, there isn't any. When one hears the same lines and arguments repeated over and over by a group of people, that's where the brainwashing part comes into play. Like you calling people lefties instead of democrats.

The truth is, on Y!Answers, most respondents (both lib and conservative) don't seem to understand that very few people live in a black or white world. I cannot say I agree with anything the President says or does, but I don't always adopt the Democrat platform as is. Like most Americans, I have formed my own views of the world, based on my own personal experiences, education, morals, etc. and my political leanings are a result of that.

And no, Democrats do not embrace individuality, just like the Republicans, they embrace like minded individuals. That's not a flaw, that's human nature. We tend to gravitate towards other who share our views, even if we are able to listen to others and consider their opinions.

It's the "Lefties, " who have been brainwashed to the point that they cannot enter a debate without utilizing character assasination and name-calling, especially if you back up your point of view with facts...which most of the time you can and they cannot.

(A good example of the above is when the Left refers to the President as "stupid." Well, it seems that Bush graduated Harvard with a higher gpa than Senator Kerry.)

I am not a Bush supporter on many issues, but I respect the office...and as far as individuality goes, the Democrats (not all) , regardless of what they purport, are not concerned with individuality. They believe in complete government control of all aspects of people's lives and the distribution of wealth...which history has proved destroys human incentive, that same incentive and competition which made this country the most wealthy and powerful on Earth.

I suggest that you pick up a copy of Bill O'reilly's "The Culture Warrior."

I think that while Democrats/Leftists speak about diversity and individual rights, their behavior when then they run across anyone different shows what they are: dictatorial Fascists. Republicans aren't nearly as dictatorial about people falling into a line and staying there as Democrats are.

As Americans we can think as we will and express those thoughts, even if the thoughts are expressed with blatant rudeness. You should be able to tell the source of the name-calling you have experienced. In my experience, Democrats/Leftists tend to believe that their own beliefs are so correct that they can abuse people who hold different ideas. I think this behavior is rude and un-American.
To my eyes and ears, the farther left a person's views, the more intolerant they are of other people's views.

Thanks for your service!

Of course it's the case and it should be the case with Republicans as well, or do we give them more slack cuz they dont know no better? I think you would have to agree the overwhelming majority of hate filled psuedo questions come from conservatives, or at least those who SAY they are. I see no liberals, demorats or anyone else calling you names. Unless you mean your shipmates? What are you saying to them to make them think you're brainwashed?

The same can be said of the Republican view when you voice an opinion that doesn't follow their line of thinking!

It all depends on perspective!

I think you are the "average" American to tell you the truth!

Anyone who holds an opinion without knowing ALL of the facts just because of party lines is ridiculous!

Nothing is black or white.....but many shades of gray!!

We do, you probably got confused with a "Ditto Head" .. there are people.. and a good bit of them.. that don't actually think about the issues.. they just take what Rush and Hannity say and regurgitate it... I'm sure there are liberals that do this as well.. but being from the left I naturally wouldn't notice them as much as I would from the right. So long as you can think about the issue and come to your own conclusion, good for you.
