Current research suggests that tubigrip does not work.It restricts swelling but that's all.It also has a placebo effect - you feel that something has been done.
In strains and sprains the most effective treatment is rest and elevation initially and then some gentle mobilisation, walk as the pain allows.
Crutches can help, but not so you don't walk on the injury, just to help you,so you can walk without hobbling (which then twists every other part of your body)
The most important thing when recovering from sprains is gentle stretching exercises, because after injury the ligaments stretch and the brain has to adjust to working with them at a different length. This is why you tend to injure the same part over and over again.
Most sprains can take 2 or more weeks to heal and will probably feel worse if you stand or walk alot on them even after this time.
Paracetamol and Ibrufen are good painkillers to take and can be taken together just follow the instructions for each.
