the signing of the declaration of Independence, no other event would exist if not for that one

There are many possibilities. American Revolution in which we gained our independence. The Civil War which made us a true nation with the same idealology and the end of slavery. World War 2, in which we mobilized an entire nation into a war to end Nazi occupation of Europe, and Japanese occupation of the Asian continent. I would have to say though, that the Most Significant event would have to be the writing and signing of the Declaration of Independence. Without this document, ratified by all 13 colonies, we would never have been able to leave British control of the colonies. If just one colony would have not ratified it, then the whole revolution may never have taken place, and the British could have possibly won the Revolutionary War.

Lemme see the candidates:

1. Washington's victory at Yorktown, Oct. 17, 1781.
2. first controlled nuclear chain reaction on Dec 2, 1942 under Enrico Fermi's direction
3. Pickett's Charge, July 3, 1863-Confederate high water mark
4. Man's landing on the moon - 1969
5. JFK assassination - 1963
6. Civil Right Act signed into law - 1964.
7. Lincoln's Gettysburg Address

My pick is Dec. 2nd, 1942, Enrico Fermi's first to control nuclear chain reaction, the world has been staring into the black abyss of nuclear holocaust ever since............

i think of the creation and invention of the suggestion age - beginning up with television and then added enhancement with the technologies and computing device age of advice and information vacationing quicker in the process the worldwide. we would not have this dialogue board and would not be attentive to of circumstances and stipulations happening around the continent much less all over the area without the enhacements of technologies and use of air/radiowaves or maybe fiber optics. seem how long we "lived at evening" till the suggestion slowly traveled from place to place as communities have been linked by using advice. From the marathon runners to the horse show, to the trains, autos, airmail, and now digital mail.

Winning the Revolutionary War. It's obviously significant because if there was no war, or if we'd lost for that matter, we'd still be under English rule...probably.

Turn into today's news. When drug smugglers can run the USA, that's pretty significant. Time to clean them out. The English couldn't beat us on our own ground, why should the illegal drug smugglers?
