It ws Fox and they cancled simply because of ratings... Which I dont get either. They only tried it on Friday nights.

Sci fi shows are typically on a short leash as far as getting ratings to justify the bigger budget needed by the show for FX. Unless the network really believes in a show enough to give it a chance to develop a following even though the ratings aren't what they want, most sci fi shows get killed within the first season.
Take a look at Buffy... it was being bounced the broadcast schedule around so much its first year, but yet look what happened later on. Same with X Files. After a year or two, all of a sudden it's crossing over into mainstream.
The fact that the amount of dvd sales was huge enough to get Serenity greenlit just goes to show those execs that the audience was out there for the series if they had just given it more of a chance.

The logic was actually a complete lack of foresight on the part of Fox. The show was too "out there" for corporate minds to wrap around. The concept was a good one and clearly touched a chord with the viewership as they loyaly followed Serenity and the good captain wherever it went- in this case DVD and the BIG screen. Its a shame that good, solid television rarely is afforded an opportunity to grow into itself.

I loved the show, but the ratings were terrible.
Firefly was consistently and weekly one of Fox's two or three lowest rated shows of that season.

Shows with that level of ratings shouldn't even last on a prime network as long as Firefly did.

Probably the same logic that allowed them to cancel the OC!

they never really gave this show a chance... they played the episodes all out of order etc....
Fox didn't want to use the episode that the creators of Friefly wanted to use for the series premiere and made them use another one.... the one they used didn't really work as a series premiere....

Okay, you just used the words "Fox" "logic" and "canceling" in the same sentence. In other words, you just blew my mind, dude. Those three things NEVER go together!
Seriously, tell it to "Wonderfalls".
