In the US, there was also the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, the younger brother of JFK.

John Kennedy was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald, who never got to trial because he was gunned down (on national television, no less!) by Jack Ruby.

Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered by James Earl Ray, who confessed to the crime and died in prison in 1998.

Robert Kennedy's murderer was Sirhan Bishara Sirhan, a Palestinian who is still in state prison in Corcoran, California.

John F. Kennedy Nov. 22, 1963 Lee harvey Oswald

Robert F. Kennedy June 1968 Sirhan Sirhan
The Kent State murders were in May 1970 I believe

Well there was also Bobby Kennedy, who was shot in a hotel kitchen by Sirhan Sirhan not more than a year after John Kennedy, I think - Also John Kennedy's shooter was killed (not sure assassinated would be the right word) by Jack Ruby while in police custody - I think MLK's assassin got old and died in this last decade. That's all I can add -

Malcolm X, the black activist, was assassinated in the 1960-s, (1965) His killers were never identified. The killings of the students at Kent State were not assassinations. Che Guevara was executed, not assassinated.
