i asked this same question awhile back and the answer is YES....
i buy all my pg tests at the dollar store now....
this site will answer any pg test questions you have
http://www.peeonastick.com/
apparently pg tests are regulated by the fda (i think) and tests (even dollar store tests) can't make it onto the market without meeting certain standards.....also the tests i buy (at Dollar Tree) detect levels of hcg at 25 (some of the more expensive tests don't detect levels that low)...so they are pretty sensitive
....there's a commercial out right now that's really funny-it shows this pg test and how hi-tech it is and says "the most advanced technology you'll ever pee on".......anyways, call me cheap, but i don't want to spend more than a buck for something i'm just gonna pee on!!

They work just as well... When I was pregnant with my daughter I used a $1 test and it came up positive where the $14 one I bought gave me a negative I used the expensive one first got a negative later that day I used the cheap one and it came up positive instantly and sure enough when my blood work came back i was pregnant.. True you don't know how long they've been on the shelf as with any pregnancy test no matter how expensive just make sure you check the experation date before you buy and follow the instructions good luck to you.

Yup. The important ingredient is always a strip of special paper similar to those strips used in 8th grade science classes to test the pH balance of water. The paper probably is a worth a nickel, and with plastic surrounding it that would make its value around 28 cents. Companies mark it up outrageously and you can buy one that will cost you a ten spot or go for the same basic product for only a dollar. I've used the buck store tests a few times with success.

The $1 test is detecting the EXACT same thing that the $12.95 test is detecting, HCG, which is commonly known as "the pregnancy hormone." Do check the expiration date on the package and follow the manufacturer's instructions and the $1 test will suffice. When you spend more for name brands, you are paying for their marketing expenses!

nope, even brand name ones work differently then other brand names ones. The difference in all of them is the amount of the hormone they detect. First response detect 10, while other can need up to 100 of the hormone. Invest in a good test. Also go to the doctor tests are free through them here.

they all do the same thing, some just detect a lower level of the hormone so you can find out sooner or some are just fancier...for a dollar you can see if theres 2 lines or not and you will prolly buy several just to make sure the first 5 were right so save your self some money and just but the cheap one

Walmart brand "Equate Pregnancy Test" are really good, I have two kids and used the same test and both tests were positive. Try it out, they cost 2 dollars and some change.

hi-all you have to do is check the date--people buy them a lot so they are always being restocked-- and YES they are just as good
if you read the back of the box and compare--the one dollar tests are made by either first response or ept.
I used the $$ tree test and the result showed up faster than the digital preg/not preg one

i've always used the wal-mart brand and it hasn't given me a wrong answer yet. Actually, EPT gave me a false positve! so to me it really doesn't matter. Good Luck!
