I have come to grips with the fact I look really frightening without makeup on. Could it be that it's all in my head?

Probably. If you wear makeup all the time you're not used to seeing yourself without it.

On the weekends I sometimes don't wear anything on my face other than sunscreen. And believe me, I am not a beauty, even with makeup but hey I like giving the neighbors a good scare every now and then.

I used too.Even if I didn't put on any heavy makeup, I still have to put on light mascara and a freshly washed face and sometimes a light foundation and concealer.(sp?)

Unless I went hiking or up North or somewhere not important. Then I just wore sunglasses.

So it is not just you. It is other people too. It is self-esteem issues. I know I have some with make-up, and I am assuming you do, too. Just let go. A few times, I went to the mall (there, because of all the people) without ANY makeup, and it really helped me let go. Now I go out of the house with makeup 90% of the time, but sometimes I don't and now I am pretty OK with it.

Oh I definitely know a lot of girls (I live in a sorority) like you, but I am completely the opposite. I love makeup, like I collect it and probably have about $700 worth of really nice makeup, but I only wear it on the weekends when I go out or for special occasions. I've really gotten to love the way my face looks without makeup and I really like feeling like a natural beauty. Start going out with like a little bit of makeup on - like just some mascara and some bronzer/blush, and work your way down to no makeup. You'll be totally comfortable with it in no time, and you'll feel so much better about yourself!

yes I don't feel that confident if I have no makeup on. I have gone to work without it a few times and my coworkers have stated that I look so tired or not feeling well. I have worn makeup for 40 yrs. and very rarely will go out without at least
eyeliner and mascara.I say if you feel it boosts your self
esteem then by all means wear it. I am not embarrassed to go without makeup but feel like I am not dressed properly
almost like you were the only one in a crowd wearing blue jeans and everyone else is dressed to the nines.

I think i look bad without make-up too! I see a lot of problems with my face that a bit of powder or shadow can fix easily. I don't use make-up in any sort of way besides enhancing my natural beauty, however. Like, for example, I love my eyes and I shadow it just so to make them pop. If I don't have make-up on I don't think I stand out enough and my features are lost in each other. If I want my lips to stand out I'll focus on lip liner and lipstick and leave my eyes pretty much blank. I don't think it is in your head but "frightening" is going a bit far. You are probably really pretty but, like me, your features are warring with each other. make-up is a good way to make one thing the focus. If you over do it with the make-up then I think "frightening" is what you'll be. Maybe you should just put foundation, mascara and lip gloss on one day. pinch your cheeks for some blush and you're good to go. See how that works.

if the thing is that you HAVE gotten used to wearing makeup constantly then try weaning yourself off it just so you can be more comfortable with noting or less makeup on, try using only a little or leaving some off one day... also be confident that you good being you... plenty of other people go around without makeup on and they look fine, i think its' mostly in your head even if you are the ugliest woman in the world... you are beautiful if your actions and attitude reflect it, BEAUTY IS ATTITUDE, i know plenty people who wear makeup and lots of it, stop hiding.... enhancing is one thing but if you have come to feel uncomfortable without it then there is a problem... good luck

Its definetly all in your head....most importantly you must have a self conscious problem with yourself....the first thing you need to work on is confidence, confidence, confidence! Yes I understand that makeup if fun and beautiful but when you get to the point where you cant live without it you wont let NO ONE see you without it...it beomes a problem...also your not letting your face breathe with all of that make up on it!

I am exactly the same!! I feel that i dont look human without it on but i soon discovered the less i wore the more attention i got so go bare and it will derfinately pay off. p.s but make sure your face is clear from any imperfections and if you dont feel completely comfortable without any just do a powder and concealor as it will look like you are naturally beautiful

It prob. is in your head. I sometimes have to go out without makeup. I try to put it on right after my morning shower but, sometimes I'm running late and have to get the kids to school. I'm lucky to have good skin but I think I look kind of pale without my mascara, being born blonde. Nobody really cares though. You prob. look fine.

I don't mind going out without makeup if it's a short trip but I don't often leave without lipstick on at least.

It depends. If you think you have to go out with a full face just to go to the grocery store maybe it's all in your head. If you just refuse to go out without lipstick or mascara, that's understandable.
