Lampwork beads refer to glass beads made using glass cane and a torch. Blown glass is cooled slowly in an annealing oven to prevent it from cracking when cooled. Since beads are small, they can be cooled in other ways, so a kiln/oven is not required. If the work is large, it might be necessary to anneal them.

Smaller lampwork beads that are under 1/4" from the mandrel to the wall will usually survive when placed in an insulating environment like vermiculite or frax blanket. Beyond that it will be necessary to anneal the thicker beads to prevent them from cracking. Annealing requires an oven that will hold about 900F and then ramp down slowly to about 600F over 4-6 hours then cool to room temp.

No. A kiln is not used at all that I know of to make lampwork beads. You use a torch. A friend once taught me how to do it, and I made a couple of beads, but I don't remember what kind of torch it was, except that it was bolted to the table. You don't move the torch, you move around it.

That depends on what kind of beads you're talking about. For the moment, I will assume you mean ceramic beads. While there are certain clays that will cook at oven temperature, I doubt they are as durable as clays that cook at cone temperatures. If you are unsure, see if there is a ceramic place in your city. Chances are, they have a commercial kiln that you can bring your pieces in to have them fired for a relatively low price. Just make sure your cone temperatures match, or you might have to pay for a mess!

you is very no longer waiting to get loose samples of handwork, as one lampworked bead takes a tremendous type of labor and desires firing, and hence is really severe priced. because the first man or woman stated, you want to purchase beads. you should purchase lots that seem as if they are severe priced, at the same time with from hearth Mountain gem stones, the u . s .'s maximum ideal bead and findings corporation, or from The Bead save in Covent backyard, London (sturdy mail order catalogue).
