Measure around the fullest part of your bust (over the nipples) while wearing a good, but not padded at all, bra. You can also go by your bra size, that is if you are wearing the correct bra size. For example...a woman that is a 34C is going to measure either 29 inches under her bust or 30 (add 5 for odd numbers, only 4 for evens). A C cup is 3 inches larger than your band size, so you would measure 37 inches across your bust, this would give you a 34C.

For your waist, this is the smallest area of your waist, it'll be tapered at the sides. Measure this across. Measure 9" down from this or at the fullest part of your hips (also including your butt) for your hip measurement.

All measurements are done slightly loose, never snug. So if your top measures 34-37", waist is 25.5-28" and your hips are 36-39" then you'll be a medium which is a size 10-12 in dress size. This may differ from store to store and depending on the cut and style of the dress.

If you can see my source, go to that website. Scroll down a bit and it'll tell you the measurements for sizes 4-18. My mom and I was looking for a pattern for a formal type of dress and those kind of patterns give you that information. Just make sure you have a measuring tape! Hope this helps!

your going to definetly need some measuring tape and your going to need to measure the width around your chest, the smallest part of your waist, your hips, the length of your chest whether its going to be strapless and you need to measure from chest to mid ankle or strapped dress when it'll be measured from shoulder to mid ankle..those are some of the main points you will have to measure but its best to have a professional, such as a seamstress or a dressmaker or maybe you can ask an older women or someone to help you out because you get the best results not doing it yourself...
