hello there
i've been playing for 2.5 years now..
I listen to stuffs like metal and heavy rock
My fav song(s)?
Most of them are from older In Flames..
stuffs like moonshield, jotun, episode 666..
and I learn by myself.. played the song slowly at first..

I haven't been playing too long, I like to play little simple riffs at first, very proud feeling when you manage that and move onto something more difficult!
I like having a teacher. It gives you a better idea of how the music you are playing should sound and it's from someone who has been there and had to go through learning the guitar. With a book, although they show you what to do, they're not always as clear as actually hearing something. Besides, a teacher will tell you how to improve and where you are going wrong.
If you don't get a teacher, I'd recommend a tuition DVD as they're not as expensive as a teacher, you can hear the music and see what you should be doing and you can watch the bits you can't quite do over and over again.
I think you should get a DVD and a teacher, it's probably the quickest way to learn.
I asked my teacher how long it took until he could play and he said it took him about 2 years with regular practising.
It is a great instrument to learn though and it feels really good when you plug it in and play your favourite songs (and people recognise them!)

well I have been playing for two weeks.,I don't really have any favorite song to play I like to play all songs. My sister is teaching me right now and she learned from this book,it is a acoustic guitar.

i play acoustic =/ but i'm saving up for an Epiphone Les Paul Standard. i've played for about 5 months. i taught myself a few notes, but most of the stuff i've learned is from taking lessons. my favorite song to play is currently fade to black by metallica, since my guitar is perfect for the intro lol. rock on!

I taught myself how to play acoustic about 5 years ago. I started by getting some Toad the Wet Sprocket tabs and playing those over and over again. Eventually got good enough to buy a couple Indigo Girls books and have gone on from there.
Favorite song to play - anything by Toad the Wet Sprocket("Whatever I Fear"; "Walk on the Ocean"; "Crowing"; "Fly From Heaven")
