How important is the Vice President candidate to you? Would you vote for a candidate for President you didn't like because you liked their running mate? Or even not vote for a candidate you liked because you did not like the running mate?

Yes , I do take in to consideration in the vice president , that's exactly why anyone running for the presidency tries their hardest to get a Great Knowledgeable running mate ..

Like Bush and Chaney ,, People probably voted for Bush who were still deciding, because Chaney has so much political history behind him ............

HOPE THIS HELPS

ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE

It has a great deal of importance to me. If I remember correctly, we have had at least 5 presidents who died in office and 1 (Nixon) who resigned. Therefore, a thoughtful person needs to determine if the vice-president is acceptable as a president. I would prefer not to vote for a president unless I liked both candidates--although, frankly, you only have 2 choices generally so sometimes the options are limited and you have no choice, except not to vote for anyone.

One heartbeat away from the presidency ~ yes, it is an important consideration.

But I would NOT vote for a Presidential candidate I disliked no matter who the running mate ~ because chances are the elected leader will serve the term.

You do have to take the whole package into consideration, but the vice president is a pretty minor character in the running of the government. So, I would say just make sure the main person is the one you can live with for 4 years.

Yes, the VP has a big role in my selection. The VP may not have a big roll, but it's an important one. If something were to ever happen to the president, he's the one in charge. The VP should have the same level of integrity and ideals as the president, but still be an independent thinker.

It could happen.

Did you see the way Cheney destroyed Edwards in the VP debate? Edwards had a slip about Mary Cheney, and some people didn't like that (probably enough to push some undecideds into the Bush-Cheney camp).

Quayle was a laughingstock (probably cost Bush 41 some votes in 1992).

I'd say it is possible. Not to any extreme though, but perhaps slightly. Hope this helps.

Good question, I guess being forced to pick a "Presidential Package" doesn't seem very democratic. I mean, Bush might not be so bad if he wasn't with Cheney.... I think for most Americans that the vice president is seen as an accessory, I don't think it has a huge effect on voter's decisions.

Yes. They are a package deal. They usually agree on most things. The VP is usually the next candidate for president. And, if anything happens to the president, the VP is next up.

Actually, the Presidential candidate doesn't have any factor in my decision either! We have a very limited selection, it's either Tweedledee or Tweedledum, so it doesn't really make a difference. My state is mostly democratic, so I tend to lean toward the Republicans, not necessarily because I choose one candidate over another, but because I try to have things balanced out. What I'd really like to see is someone running who actually cared about this country and wasn't running for Prez out of self

The Vice president plays a big part. After all they are only a heartbeat away from the presidency.
