Hi,
Just as any type of car or computer, there are good reviews and bad ones. I have owned 4 eMachines and have never had any problems, and I use them for work.
I'm sure you can get others to say the opposite. They are not owned in anyway by WalMart, it's just that they are afforable. You get a lot for what you pay.
Try reading the consumer written reviews at cheapest prices search engine.

p.s. I'm about to buy another one.

It all depends what you want it for. Personally I wouldn't take it because I like my PC to be available to perform any task. However, the first thing you do is check the proccessor's speed,
type of motherboard, quantity of slots, even an AGP slot the hard-drive's brand I'd say no less than 80 Gb for basic computing. Getting these specs will enable you to upgrade it down the road and last you for a good while.
I't does not really matter the brand of the PC, as long as you know how to keep it running good and healthy with some basic maintanance knowledge you'll do fine but remember to keep in mind the hardware specs when you buy it. Good luck.

I'm not a big fan of eMachines, if you want a cheap pre built computer I would suggest going with HP (though they're not nearly as cheap as eMachines).

if its just for home work its a good computer but it you are going to do pic. editing or music editing i wouldn't pick a emachine. because about the same price you can build one in one day if you know what you are doing. because i built mine in about 7 hrs and it cost me about $900.

I have an E-machines, and it has provided good service. I had an older one also that is still working ok (6 years now). I would say they are good. They have a great deal on one at Wal-Mart right now.

Depends. Reliability... hmmm no.
Updateability...hmmm No
Graphics and superior game play......no
Adaptability with its OWN Software ....no
Upgradability to Vista.....hmmmm Please. be serious.
Kids computer for accessing the Internet......Awesome because if they download a virus it will surly destroy it it and you can punish your kids by not buying another one.
Price for just your basic needs......again awesome especailly for the novice.
So I guess I must say yeah its OK.
