My doctor gave me a handout at my baby's last checkup that said not to give her baby-food meats yet - but, it's too late, she's already eating them every day. I gave them to my son at this age too and don't remember being told not to. And I hear mothers telling stories of starting their children on meats and eggs as young as 2 months!

So anyway I never got an explanation - why is it baby food meats is not recommended at this age?

My doc said that it was ok to start my son on meats and he is only 5 months old. Each dr will tell you something different, but if she is already eating them and doesn't seem to have any reaction to them, then continue.

I was told the same thing. But the reason why is because I was told that a baby's body at six months is too premature to digest meats properly. I also gave my boys meats around 6-7 months and there didn't seem to be a problem.

Heck at my sons 2 month check up {he was almost 3 months} his dr told me to start him on soilds. He had his 6 month check up not long ago and his dr told me to start him on meats, which he had already been on. My son also eats eggs been eating those since he was 6 months old. I think it just depends on who you talk to and that persons beliefs. My friend who uses WIC had the lady she has to see every month for her checks tell her that the child shouldnt be on any table food at all and her daughter is 9 months old almost 10 months! Do what you feel is right for your child your the mom you know whats best.

PS Gerber has out these things called "graduates" which are chicken and beef sticks try your baby on those thats how I introduced meats to my son because he hated the jared stuff. He now eats those sticks warmed slightly ofcourse and cut small enough for him only when what I cook would be to spicy for him to eat otherwise he eats the exact same thing we do and his Dr said that is just fine

Starting babies too early on foods such as this can cause allergies and sensitivities. You need to probably mix some of the meat with baby cereal and back off on the proteins a bit. Baby's main protein should be Mother's milk or formula until age 1.

You're not even supposed to start solid foods until 6 mos of age, so your baby should just now barely be getting started with things like rice cereal or mashed bananas. Meats are not a good first food since they would be harder to digest.
