I'm going to assume you mean an intranet. It is a section of the network where outside access is restricted, or access is granted only to a select few addresses.

Its the Intranet...intranets can be easily identified by checking the IP address of the machine.....a particular range of IP address has been set aside for intranets..these are 10.*.*.*, 192.168.*.*, 127.*.*, and one more i don't remember....all the machines belonging to a network have the same IP address range....furthermore, the IP address range can again be broken down into subnets for identifying and separating, say, various departments. For example, an Company A has all its intranet machine in the IP range 10.*.*.*. The company can further divide the Ip address ranges between various departments as 10.1.*.* for Dept A, 10.2.*.* for Dept B, etc. Different subnets can have different access and security rules applied to them.
