You might not like the "exposed" look of your oak tree, but give the poor thing a chance to recover from the lightning strike before giving it the added stress of having to hold up prosthetic limbs. Some plant food (they sell plant food stakes for trees) and water would be nice.

Sale that lightening wood on line on Ebay under Indian Power. A magic bag has power when loaded with a piece of wood struck by lightening. Its an old wise tale from my ancestors The Creeks.
Let me tell you a story so that you don;t think I bulling you here.
They let the river down two years ago for docks to be fixed. I went to acertain spot on the bank and put my hand in the mud and pulled up clovis points and arrow heads and an Indian Dart.
The local News paper did story and it grabbed atention right away. What puzzled the archaeologist was how I knew they were in that one spot and no where else?
Something to think about!
I have them displayed in my House in a shadow box. The most prettiest things you ever saw.

You might try a tree surgeon!!!!!!!!
Sounds like a business opportunity for some young enterprising fella........gotta be a common problem.......prosthetic tree limbs.....why the heck not !!!!!!!!!
Good luck
Oooo......another option.a buddy of mine lost an oak to disease. He was left with an 8 ft tall stump that he had a local chainsaw artisan carve into a bear.......very unique!!!!

No, leave it alone, some of my relatives need a new home for their queen and the "exposed" tree will make it easier to take up residence!
Then I can stop by for a beer with you and Dr. Phil....

never heard of this one but if you tar over the damage the it will keep the limb from dying and in time trees heal themselves and will grow new bark.
