Here's the situation...just to clarify cause I didn't make myself clear.
My sister in law is pregnant and the doctors are trying to stay away from certain tests that seem to be necessary to determine if she has a blood clot in her lungs. I want to know which tests could be done without being harmful.

You need more than a blood test to determine if you have a blood clot people! Yes tests like xrays, MRIs, CT scans and some others like echo cardio and so forth are dangerous during pregnancy. They probably need to use one of the tests that are not safe. The doctors wouldn't make things up! I hurt my back during my first pregnancy from a fall. They needed to do an MRI and it had to wait. I spent most of my time from 7 months on on our couch in pain! It was worth it though.

Lab tests shouldnt be harmful

Even most XRays are not as harmful and once thought. If you find out you are pregnant in the first trimester and had an xray the embryo can recover from it. The XRAY is only most harmful if directed at that sight but most XRAYS now are so advanced that exposure only happens to the area it is directed at. I had a XRAY of my lungs before I knew I was pregnant and they said it was fine because XRAYS pinpoint much better the area and exposure is minimal

*Sigh* I actually have a chuffed, healthful just about 18 month previous female new child. I drank weight-alleviation plan soda on a daily basis of my being pregnant. And tea with man made sweetener, because of the fact I like it to tea with sugar and sugary drinks. I had an person-friendly being pregnant and a healthful infant, so I do think of the entire risk element is overblown. At 33 weeks all of the significant bits are executed coming up in any experience, so as long as you do not drink gallons of the stuff an afternoon, you should be effective. whilst i exchange into close to to the top, the artwork crowd went out for drinks. I went alongside and drank weight-alleviation plan soda. between the adult males tried to tell me I shouldn't and that i provided him a sort of the place he'd positioned on it if he did not close up! the negative aspects of beginning a controversy with a pregnant female. LOL!

none of the blood work is harmful to you or your baby. Some tests that have risks to you and the unborn child are amniocentesis, chronic villi sampling, and any kind of x-ray's, MRI'S or CT scans where you can be exposed to radiation. Abdominal ultrasounds are fine because they use sound waves.

none except x rays. but lab tests are usually blood tests and urine tests maybe even a swab of the vagina making sure there isnt any bad bacteria but other than that those are usually the only lab tests that get done during pregnancy

once ure pregnant hospitals will not run harmful tests- other than that, only xrays really.

other tests may not be done becuase of other changing factors such as blood pressure, sugar level, hormonal levels, etc.
