My friend has a fairly nice house and my friends asked if we could use her house for my baby shower. She was happy to lend us her place. Here's my question...there are about 40 guests which are all women. If we were to add children, it would add about another 20 bodies and the space is limited. Not to mention, she has nice things in her house and I wouldn't want kids running around breaking things.....how can I make it an "Women Only" shower without offending anyone. My friends told me that it shouldn't be a problem because baby showers should be for adults anyway. It's only a 3 hour party....what do you think?

I don't think anyone would be offended about not having children at the baby shower if you explain to them that the reason is because the space is limited. If you even mention the "nice things in her house ... kids running around breaking things, then you'll offend everyone with children which will just make them want to bring them just to prove you wrong -- which you probably won't be!! Have a great baby shower and I hope you get lots of nice things for the baby.

A friend of mine had that same problem. She was going to put "Mommy only" party, but didn't to offend non parents by that one, so in the end she just put "due to the location of the party we are asking that this be an adult party only".
As far as we know no one was offended, or at least no one said anything about it. Only a couple people weren't able to attend due to having issues with finding someone to watch their children, but you're going to have that regardless.

Children are not usually invited to a baby shower. Making it women only is fine. Children will get in the way, and make the shower stressful for everyone!

Maybe you should ask the person who owns the house. 40 people is a lot of people to begin with and maybe she doesn't want 40 women in her house if she has such nice things and space is limited. I would ask her what she thinks, maybe when she said you could use her house she thought you meant like 20 people total.

Baby showers are adult events. You should not have to specify that it is "women only". I don't know why this ingenious idea has not caught on, and why every time a party is thrown, the host has to worry about whether or not it will be overrun by children. The only proper "parties" for children are family get togethers that don't necessitate invitations, and other children's birthday parties.
If you receive an invitation (first clue) and it does not specifically say "children invited"...please, please, please don't assume your children are welcome, as a matter of fact, assume they are NOT.

For my bridal shower, we just wrote on the bottom "please no children under the age of 15". It worked out great, I doubt anyone would be insulted and I'm sure everyone would understand.

Unfortunately, a lot of moms have to take their kids whether they want to or not. I don't know what I would say. Sorry
