It wasn't just his fault. The Mayor and Governor blew it big time as well.

They voted GOP because the Democrats ran candidates the voters thought were flawed...that doesn't mean that voters don't think Bush is flawed, it's just a matter of pulling the least rotten apple from the bottom of the barrell.
It doesn't change the fact that Bush is incompetent, hence his falling poll numbers amongst all the other things he's screwed up.
You have to be able to look at the current political situation in this country from an unbiased not party view to find the truth.

I think you must mean the response after Katrina. J.R. and several others are telling it as it is. There are many issues that are his to answer for, but this is not one of them. He had called the Gov and the Mayor to offer help in advance and his offer was turned down. The Constitution forbids the Fed Gov from entering states and forcing aid down their throats. What happened in New Orleans was an example of stupidity and arrogance by local government. And they reelected the prime idiot. Go figure. The city got a loan several years ago from the Fed Gov stating repairs to the levys as a primary need, and they spent the money on everything but. GWB was man enough to accept the heat and not say a word in his own defense about the reality. I am not a fan of his, but in this case, he was a true gentleman and behaved in a presidential manner.
There are plenty of real matters if you want to pick on him. You don't need to buy into hackneyed phony BS.

This may be a case of voters just going for the "other party".
The poor response can be said to be caused by Bush because he remove FEMA from independence and put it under Homeland Security, under the auspices of a man with little to no experience in disaster management. You can get away with patronage in a position that doesn't need ability and experience, but not where peoples lives and property are endangered. You couldn't change the hurricane, but the flooding was caused by a miscalculation by the Army Corps of Engineers, and it was the flooding that destroyed the city. All of that is too complex for most people to truly understand, so the initial response is just to get the B******* out of there.

Because the idea that Katrina was Bush's fault is misinformation spread by the media and liberals.
BTW, I was a contractor working for FEMA during the hurricane and the cleanup. We were in place and ready to bring water, food, etc. to the victims BEFORE the storm even hit the Gulf coast. The states of Mississippi and Alabama were ready to accept our help, and we helped them as soon as the roads were cleared and we could drive our trucks through. The state of Louisiana did not receive federal assistance at first because the Governor refused to ask for it. The Constitution prevents the President from meddling in state affairs without the permission of the state. Once she asked for help, we were right there doing everything humanly possible.

Actually Katrina was Mother Nature's fault.
Bust really doesn't have that much power. Besides, there's a lot of voters that don't live in New Orleans.

I recall that in the last election, the GOP lost seats in both the House and Senate. The stage is set for a Dem president in 2008, assuming they don't nominate a real loser.
