Depends how old you are. You can hang out at bars, but the people you meet there are usually superficial and slutty.
My favorite places to meet people are in coffee shops and book stores.
If you get a job that will help a lot too.

Just start going to places that you would normally go to hang out. BBall court, bar, gym, coffee shop...etc. This way you are sure to meet people with the same interests as you.
