For example: Once I had a dream where I was running a lot. When I awoke, my legs (quads-actually) were sore. Any ideas?

Yes, all the time!

When you woke up and felt sore in the quads, it because your brain thought the whole thing was real and sent messages to your muscles which made them produce the chemicals that made you feel sore. No actual running was done since the motor neurons were not included, since you are sleeping.

Hmmm... Almost convinced myself that I knew the whole thing!

many times but the weirdest thing was a dream I had a few weeks ago that I knew was a dream but was so vivid I could actually taste and smell things. I took full advantage of course and ate an entire box of orange matchmakers. Well you wouldn't want to waste calorie free chocolate would you.

Perhaps you are acting your dreams out as you sleep, thus making your muscles sore.....or possibly sleep walking, or night terrors could be the answer. But, I do know what you mean, I have had that happen several times. What is really scary is when what you dream really did happen.....then you wonder how sane you are or if you have a split personality!!!!!

These interactive dreams that have real/unreal seeming kinds of events are Lucid Dreams. If you allow yourself to make choices about who you talk to and the scenery stays the same that is probably a Lucid Dream.

This may sound weird to most, but I would have to say that to some extend they are real. What I mean is..When someone has passed away and they come to you in a dream or you are talking to them in a dream..I really think you did meet or speak with them.
