He needed an organ transplant last year and that is the side effects of the steroids he is taking.

He had a kidney transplant about a year ago for a genetic kidney disease he inherited from his Mother. He looks all swollen because of a steroid called prednazone. The anti-rejection drugs do not cause puffiness. What you're seeing is called "moon face," and it's the most common side effect of prednazone.

In November 2004 he announced that he was suffering from polycystic kidney disease and would require a kidney transplant. He underwent transplant surgery on January 14, 2005, after his friend Abby Finer donated one of her kidneys.
He appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in April 2005 to discuss the operation, where he also revealed that his appearance on the show had resulted in his being fired from The Today Show.
Later, the kidney became infected by a virus, and in June 2005 he underwent a second operation to have the new kidney removed. On August 17, he announced that his body was free of the viral infection and that he was ready to find a new transplant.

He had a liver or kidney transplant (don't remember which one). The puffiness is from the prednazone and other anti-rejection drugs he's on.

He finally got that kidney transplant, he's probably happy as a clam now even tho it doesn't look like it!!

He has a kidney problem, but what about his hair? I find it funny that they have him commenting on peoples looks.

Isn't he sick? I think I heard he was in need of a kidney transplant or something. Dunno what to tell you about the swelling.

he had kidney failure and is being treated ...its probably from steroids.
