It's totally different singing acapella in front of several total strangers ( there's a t.v. crew in there as well as the judges) than it is singing in a garage band or a church choir or even in a mirror. I'm sure some of them just get a bad case of nerves. Doing well at an audition like that is just as much a case of good self control as it is having good pipes and tone sensitivity.

I agree with everyone here that said that people were not honest with them. I also noticed it was the ones who were so terrible that got so angry and upset and it was the ones who really could sing that were a lot more humble. Self-knowledge is a great thing.

Did you notice when the bad singer in the red shirt came out cursing and saying he "wanted so bad to be famous", his mother hugged him and said "don't worry, you'll be famous some day". I think parents of these kids have a responsibility to enlighten them rather than tell them they can "do anything", when obviously, they can not.

Yuck. Some people I think were just trying to get their 30 seconds of "fame" on TV; even if it means that they are being made fun of. There were some good singers but others....the volume went down on the TV!!! ;)

There are three levels of judging. The really good and really terrible ones get through to be on tv. So the really terrible ones have been told by the previous judges that they are fantastic, so they think they are fantastic.
But they need the horrible ones for good tv.

of direction presented which you have an eye-catching quirky look and smile. attractiveness trumps expertise each and each time. some journey as a variety or Play newborn rabbit will certainly help. BTW, I actual have purely finished answering a million,000 questions -- the extra fool am I!!!

These people are surrounded by family and friends telling them how AWESOME they are!! And then when they sing in front of real professionals and are told they don't have a snowball's chance, they can't handle it. Nobody ever told them they were straight-up AWFUL!!

I think most of them live in an unrealistic fantasy world. Hooray for them though.

Chalk it up to nervousness, and the fact that they usually don't have anything to back them up/hide mistakes
