It varies considerably, depending on where you are. It is a long way from Amsterdam to Marseilles. It also varies by date, of course; you get noticeably more daylight at the end of February than at the beginning.

Here in Yorkshire it gets dark about 6pm, and sunrise is about 7.30am

Depends where you live.

The local paper should have the times of sunrise and set, on the weather page. I think http://www.weather.com does, too.

depends where you live. In the south east of the UK it is light at 7ish and dark at 5.30 ish

not sure about sunrise, but I think it would get dark about 6pm, maybe even half 6!
