when I dock my ipod onto my PC (Windows xp) it takes ages to do anything and itunes freezes for a while, I then get an error message saying "itunes has detected an ipod is corrupted". It then instructs me to restore, but then an error occurs here aswell. Does anybody know of any way of restoring my ipod externally or away from itunes? I think there is no hope of itunes restoring my ipod.

The model is 30GB Video.

Hey, if you want to restore your iPod, be sure hidden files and folders can be viewd, then goto the iPod Directory. Delete everything on the iPod, then dsconnect, then reconnect the iPod to the computer. Open iTunes and it will let you restore

Like everyone has said, restore your iPod using the latest itunes. Please make make make sure you have 'ejected' the iPod before removing the USB cable (bottom right corner or to the left of your iPod on the itunes software). I once sold my Gen 1 iPod nano on ebay and the buyer claimed it was corrupted! I then had to gve a step by step tutorial on IM via Windows Live Messenger. It worked at last. Turns out that he did not 'eject' the iPod first. If it still doesn't work, uninstall your itunes completely and have it reinstalled. However if that doesn't work again (last resort), I guess you have no choice but to reformat or reboot your XP and try again. My itunes was once corrupted as well when a virus attacked my XP; a few of the installed softwares got infected.
