WHen contests go through to Hollywood do they have to pay for the cost or does American Idol pay for their expenses..ect..plane ticket, hotel, food

I'm pretty sure that the American Idol producers pay for everything. Because to me, it don't quite make sense if they have to pay it themselves.

Idol pays for their transportation there and home and puts them up at the hotel--remember, even tho we see it over a span of a few weeks, it's really only 2 or three days to whittle it down to the final 12 which is then seen "live".

Idol picks up the tab from then on, but I am not sure about the return tickets for those that are sent home after;.

Well, the Biggest Loser contestants had to pay their own way. I would think that idol is the same.
