I have 13 IBM Thinkpad A31laptops and on 9 of them I cannot get the displays to work. The screens are blank.

You'll want to read the Checkout Guide section first and than view the LCD-related Symptoms section which is under:

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
