Yes I have. When I read your question, this came to mind right away. Last year I had this GREAT job. I was lead assistant in a corporate office's marketing department. I loved the people I worked with, and it paid a good salary. I had been with the company for eight years. One dreary Friday morning, the big boss called each one of us into his office separately under the guise of talking about "future plans". Stupid me, walked in, all confident, with my pad and pen, ready to jot down our "future plans" when I was told that "my position was eliminated". I truly felt like someone punched me in the stomach. The company had decided that the marketing department would be handled by another group in our office in the south instead of us. So that day, all but one person was let go from our department. And we had to leave that very day. So in effect, one minute I was sitting in a meeting in a beautiful high rise building looking out the vast windows over the city, and the next minute I was gathering up my pictures off my desk and trying not to cry. So when I read "shot down in a blaze of glory", that's what that felt like to me.
