No. Everybody has different talents, and everyone is gifted in their own way. I excelled in English and Social Studies. I like to write and I like to research about histrory. I wasn't in the honours class for it. Math, I didn't like too much. People excell at different rates.

Just do the best you can. You have talents too you know. You are gifted too you know. Have confidence in yourself, feel good about what YOUR talents are, I wouldn't worry about it too much, just focus on your gifts and talents.

I take the TAG class (gifted and talented) if I had heard of that before I got in I would think so. I notice a lot of my friends that go in there become more... snobby. I also notice that it shouldn't exist. Teachers should either not mention it or do away with it because not everyone is tested, the kids who don't get in feel dumb, and the average kids who excel in 1 area are stuck up. It should be just a separate homeroom. Nothing more. My friends who aren't and have heard of it when I went in treated me like an alien or something.

Hey! I get how that can be insulting, since everyone IS gifted and talented, in their own special way. But I think, that as long as you remember that, it shouldn't matter too much what they call the class...really, no one even calls it Gifted and Talented anyway, we just say G.T. "Regular" isn't supposed to be insulting, since GT is really just people who do things above and beyond...like you! ^__^

GT is for the kids who really work hard and make good grades. They deserve to have a special class for them. According to my son's GT teacher, this class is supposed to challenge them more. I don't agree with a 5th grader having to do 7th grade work but I let my son decide if he wanted to be in GT or not and he chose the class. If he decides he doesn't like it anymore I can have him taken out of the class but so far he wants to stay in. He's only goes to that class twice a week for about an hour so he's not really missing much in his regular class.

no i dont. if someone excels in a certain area they should get rewarded for it and be able to be in a class that is at their level. And at a lot of schools it is not just "gifted and talented" anymore. at my school we had Honors classes. Which was a step above regular classes but one below GT.

What else would you propose? You have to call the classes SOMETHING, and that seems fairly innocuous.. Or do you not believe in providing the extra opportunities for the smart kids who will likely be the ones changing the world someday?

Only if you also ride the Short Bus to school.

And the way someone says it would matter as well (tone and inflection are key).

I agree. And sometimes it is a matter of opinion whether someone is G&T.
