they're dirty or you have the wrong solution on them. You're eyes may be sensitive to the solution on the contacts, switch to a different solution and see if that helps.

Hopefully they are disposables! It could be one of many things
Solution allergy/sensitivity
Lenses not cleaned fully (use the no rub formulas overnight but still give them a bit of cleansing before you put them away)
Your eyes could be dry (winter weather is dryer than other seasons)
Your lenses may be older than the expected wear
Or maybe you have been wearing your contacts too long and your eyes are telling you they need a rest (you really shouldnt wear them overnight no matter if they are "extended wear" or not)

Yeah, they're dirty. Stuff builds up on them. You need a new pair. Or you could try cleaning them with those enzymatic cleaner tablets; sometimes you can get an extra couple weeks out of a pair if you do that.
Otherwise, there could be a small tear or notch. Look at them really closely under a bright light.

Wash your hands with hot water and soap before handling your contacts and ALWAYS rinse them really well with contact solution, even if you are taking them from your soaking solution. If it still burns you might be allergic to the solution.

Most likely you still had some of the solution that you used to clean them with left on the lens. It burns like a SOB. I've done it before. Just gotta make sure you rinse them with the optical solution your Ophthalmologist provided you with.

If you washed your hands before you put the contacts in you may not have rinsed all the soap off your hands good enough, therefore some soap got in your contacts. It has happened to me many times.

You might have put it in backwards, like outside in. That does it. Or just dust or dirt, take it out and wash it with proper solution, and try again. The no rub stuff works good.

You may have put the cleaning solution in your storage case instead of wetting solution. I did this once and suffered the same symptoms. Soap in your eyes hurts!

Did you use any saline solution?
You might be allergic to the material in the contact, although that's highly unlikely.
Your eye probably just needs to adjust being touched and having a seeing implant forced upon it.
