I've got a PS2 and was going to buy the PS3 when its released this year. But I've recently seen 'Gears of War' and some other xbox 360 games and I have been blown away by the graphics. 'Gears' is just amazing, breathtaking, and I am tempted to buy an xbox 360 just for that game alone. I can wait for the PS3 but is it going to be as good in terms of next generation graphics as the xbox 360 is? Anyone know?

The PS3 is capable of better graphics than the 360. But it's all up to the developers to see what they can do with it. Hire an idiot developer (ie, people who made the Barbie games) and they'll make crappy games no matter how powerful the system is. Hire a good developer, and the games will end up really good.
Of course Gears look amazing. It's a 2nd generation game so it should look a lot better than the PS3's launch games. All these people who say the 360's graphics is just as good as the PS3 are kidding themselves. They're comparing 2nd gen games to 1st gen games. About 90% of the PS3 games are launch games, so they look pretty crappy, but then again, that's normal. Look at the 360's launch games. Most of them were pretty crappy.

It really comes down to personal opinion, and what games you prefer. However, my opinion is that the combination of an Xbox 360 and an Nintenod Wii cannot be matched by the PS3.
As it stands now, the PS3 is too expensive at $600, and it only has one game worth buying (Resitance: Fall of Man). For this amount, you could buy both the 360 and a Wii, and have a much better gaming experience.

Both of these consoles are the cream of the crop... it's up to your budget, taste of games and how much you want it... for me... seeing the xbox 360 rushing it's way out of the factory with out the games for the christmas rush. However the PS3 is still waiting for the games so it's launch is a succesfull one.. it's like the Xbox came out to battle with out it's guns... while the PS3 is loaded... I jsut hope that PS3 will bring out the best games coz hearing about the specs of the consoles make me cry... when these consoles are out world wide... these "memory cards" are for "saved game" transportation purposes only... whoever thought of a console with 20gb of memory in them.. wireless controllers... USB ports... state of the art cooling systems.. and new arsenals of CDs to use. like the Blueray disc and the HDVD or something like that... if your tempted for the graphics... I heard that the Xbox is using the best NVIDIA graphics card but I know that the PS3 will use 2 Media cards hat can equal to the Xbox. If it's graphics your looking for... look for the Xbox. If game play... well choose a great game... I'm sure gameplay won't be affected by the consoles... it's just the and the games available... <<>>

When it comes to power, PS3 is the most powerful console. Sure, you might be impressed with the graphics of "Gears", I am too, but when programmers get a feel for the cell processor in the ps3, which might be sooner than you think, the ps3 will be able to do things that would be impossible on the 360.

PS3 in my opinion is better than the 360. And look at it this way, 360's been put for over a year and according to you it just now produced as good game.
PS3 on the other hand just came out and already rivals 360.
If you really want to find the answer to your question then go to www.gamespot.com and chek out the message forums. Hundreds of thousands of people on there dayly compare and contrast the 360 to the PS3 to the PC.

pretty similar graphics wise, ps3 is much more expensive with a lot less original games.
360 has lots of new and interesting stuff such as gears of war etc, ps3 is for if you like your sequels.
ps3 has the advantage of bieng a blu-ray player aswell
hd-dvd must be seperately purchased for the 360 and i don;t even think the addon is available yet.

Xbox 360 is amazing and all the kinks have been worked out (for the most part). I'd say go for the 360 and hold off on the PS3.

I'm more of an Xbox fan, but that's because The ElderScrolls IV: Oblivion was out for the 360 before it was released for PS3. (And because I'm petty).
I've heard that it's not supposed to be as good game wise. I've also heard the terrible rumour (or to me atleast) that they've had to change some of the games, including Oblivion, and make them smaller so that they will run on the PS3...
