Sanitation Worker
The normal entry-level position in the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is Sanitation Worker. Sanitation Workers are appointed from a civil-service list. In order to be placed on the civil-service list, a candidate must pass a written exam and a physical test administered by The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS). As DSNY receives authorization to hire Sanitation Workers, it calls candidates in list-number order. Each candidate must pass a pre-employment medical exam, a background check and a driver's license check.
Under the current civil service list, each candidate must have a high school diploma, or equivalent, and a commercial driver's license at the time of appointment. Sanitation Workers must reside within New York City, Nassau County or Westchester County.
The current starting salary of a Sanitation Worker is $26,000 per year. The current labor agreement provides for periodic increases to a maximum of $57,396 after 5 1/2 years. In addition to the basic annual wages, Sanitation Workers may also earn differential payments based on their specific assignment and overtime.
The current Sanitation Worker list from civil service exam # 2052 was established on Feb. 18, 2004. Physical tests have been administered by DCAS to those who passed the written exam with list #'s below 9000. Currently, DSNY has sent letters to those eligible candidates with list #s through 7031 to appear for pre-employment orientation sessions prior to appointment. To date, DSNY has reached list number 6772 for appointment to Sanitation Worker.
Any candidate who passed the written exam #2052 and has a list # below 9000 but who was not scheduled for the physical test should contact DCAS Examinations Division at (212) 669-7269.
Any candidate who passed the physical test and has a list # below 5700 and who was not called for a pre-employment orientation session should contact DSNY Human Resources at (646) 885-0801.

I wish I had boobs that hung down to my balls. But I think in order for everyone to enjoy those, I'd have to live in New York because in Afghanistan they would be covered up with long robes and whatnot. And maybe a beard.
