I have a brand new core 2 duo e6400 desktop with a asus p5b motherboard, liteon dvd 16x burner with sony 16x discs. It is only burning at 8.1x, and starts off slowly at 5.8x. The hard disk where the image is located at is on a SATA hard disk 300.

16x is not a constant speed ... it is the max speed.
The actual speed varies at the beginning, the center & the inner rim of the DVD media.

Use DVD info to get detailed results of the device performance.

FYI .. I burn at 16x with Memorex several times each day ... I doubt that is an issue.

A Double Layer rigidity basically shows that it may burn on double layer discs that could postpone to eight.5 gb of archives that's double what a DVD R can carry. confident, you may surprisingly much relatively have 2 dvd burners on one pc. that's form of redundant, yet sturdy to have in case one isn't working for some reason. whilst i purchase a sparkling pc I regularly purchase it with a DVD+/-RW and a DVD-rom rigidity (basically performs DVDs, does not burn). basically ensure you undergo in innovations which rigidity has the Double Layer capacity by way of fact in case you ignore approximately you will get annoyed with having to get rid of the disc and placed it in the right rigidity.

Make sure your media is 16X.

Avoid Memorex media.

Verbatim or Sony work well.
