I have never had a snail before. I understand that they only come out to eat. When I put him in the tank,(around noon) he came out of the shell for about an hour then pulled back in and hasn't moved since. How often do they come out? Is he dead?

My water tests all came back normal and I am not having any trouble with the fish.

Please keep in mind I know nothing about snails. If I push on the door I don't know what normal is.

He might just be chilling, or he might have died. Snails are tough, though, and usually don't die that easily, and they aren't active all the time. If you want to check, take him out, and push on his "door". If he's alive, it'll be normal. If he's dead. it'll collapse and be very gross.

Snails are weird like that. One of mine kept doing that and we kept thinking he was dead, but then he'd randomly come back out. Just keep an eye on him, snails don't usually die very easily.

Check your calcium. They can't lay down new shell without it. I've noticed serious changes in grazing activity depending on calcium levels.
