good question, but if women didn't then I wouldn't be able to go from a Cook to a Baker (my last name to his)

I will completely take my husband's name. I've always had a complicated Russian last name. NO ONE knows how to spell or pronounce it. It's been an annoyance my whole life, lol. When I get married, I will change it to my boyfriend's name. He has a very nice simple last name - Rivera. Easy to pronounce, easy to spell. I'm takin' it! lol :P And your Watson + Crick = Crickson made me laugh, that was funny :)

My understanding it happened because women were considered property and based on your last name was who you belonged to.
